Where Is Rand Paul?

Imagine if Rand Paul were to have re-entered the race for the presidency, splitting the Republican party. He is the outsider with some experience in the Senate, and has shown the ability to stand up, as in his solo filibuster. With a little brushing up on foreign policy, he could be a good president just because he is able to look to the good of his nation, or because he could be a legitimate president. The sane Republicans, such as the Bushes and Mitt Romney, should have split the party rather than support the Trumpster, and we have now grave doubts about those who jumped on board out of allegiance to party. The people of Washington’s era knew how to think of party. Ours seem to have demonstrated that they do know the difference between liberty and tyranny, or do not care, as though there were higher priorities. Even now, Rand Paul might take more votes from the right than the left, though it could backfire, taking more from Hillary. We do think that our nation will be alright with the experience of Bill and Hillary, while we do not think we would be alright otherwise. Our enemies too seem to know this, to favor Trump and to be ready to pounce.

Hillsdale College Establishes a Free Classical Academy in Whitmore Lake

Following the experience and example of their Barney school, Hillsdale college has opened a charter school in Livingston county that is tuition free. It will be very interesting to see how they adapt the classics program to the High School and Middle school level. Languages, such as Greek, and Literature, such as Shakespeare, can be done along with drama and  history, in addition to the sciences and mathematics already done in High School. This will be a bit more interesting than the grammar and “English” courses usually taught.

I would advise anyone able to give this program a try. A kind of friendship is possible at these schools, where a common enterprise and classics give the atrophied American intellect and imagination and outlet that makes a kind of happiness available for these students, in contrast with the emptiness left in the souls of the students of programs based on the idea that “jobs” and “technology” ae the goals of education.

Congratulations, Hillsdale!

Manual Backup is the key Safeguard From Election Fraud

Let each voter keep a paper copy of how they voted. I do not know how elections can be secured in the internet age, no does anyone else. Decentralized vote counting will be another safeguard, sort of like decentralizing the electrical grid to prevent huge blackouts. Manual backup is the key to the inconveniences of technology in general, but we will not do this, and so we have here another way in which the internet world tends toward tyranny.

“Better Together” Trumps “America First”

The first will be last. Hillary need do little to trounce Trump on any matter of substance whatsoever. Tyranny can solve all sorts of problems in the short term: look what China did regarding overpopulation. Trump is on the radio today talking about deporting all ten million illegal immigrants immediately, with “Zero tolerance,” the new catch phrase for unjust and extreme actions. Not only criminals, but also little girls, people seeking refuge and all sorts of circumstances are included in the ten million, and while we must have and enforce borders, it is poor excuse for harming people by unjust actions. Consider the terror of I.C.E. among legal hispanic citizens already in place. Here again, one suspects that while there may be room for improvement, nearly everything that can be done is being done by the Obama administration, and Trump is simply blaming Obama for any ill and inconvenience in the world. But that is the sort of thing politicians often do, not to mention salesmen.

I am again impressed with Hillary taking up prison reform as a major issue. Justice is the only thing we can do to make this problem better, and if law enforcement does not provide an example of justice, I am afraid all is lost. Prison is not an excuse for the “empowered” to treat the captive unjustly, nor is unjust treatment a constitutional punishment. Justice, not injustice, treats injustice. And in foreign policy, justice, and not “deal making” secures our national interests, while whatever we do to others will be done to us. Punishments are determined not by cops but by judges, because we are a free people, and once understood the difference between liberty and tyranny. I want Mr. Cheney to spend some time with the people and the families of the people who will be tortured in retaliation for what we did in Iraq and elsewhere, because this will occur, unless we repent. We will begin with the examples that would not have occurred had someone not said, “they did it, so it must be the right thing to do.” After all, what if we save some of our own… How about we save them by acting justly from the beginning? Trump supporters are there although they know torture is a part of his platform. Are we Wiemar Germany? Are we ready to elect our own tyrant? Do we not then see how a people can become so stupid as to be unable to elect their own governors?

The wise see the people as dummies.

                                                   Loa Tzu

That, and not something obnoxious, is what he means, that the wise see in just what way the people are stupid. We also say that the American people are like Dorothy, but we mean something different when we say this. There we mean that she need only click her heels to be back home in Kansas. The example is the astonishing advancement in justice regarding civil equality attained especially by the Democrats in the last thirty years, so extreme that most white men (All that I know who have women) are now propertyless wards of the women, who own all the property, outside that upper ten or so percent, where the extremely rich who have earned their own money are still the males, and fatherhood has been demolished. Every single father is in danger of being jailed in debtor’s prison. The courts simply require that the divorced males support two households or be jailed. The alternative is to make the state the breadwinner, since that is why the women used to keep the men around anyway, at least till they worked them to death, threw out the empty bottle and kept the property. No society has ever had a fifty percent divorce rate, and it is not clear that a nation can survive even this.

Look on your twenty dollar bill and consider the Trail of Tears. That will be the first scene of a Trump presidency. And perhaps we will put Donney Trumpette on a bill in the future, if there is a future. It will look like a piece of monopoly money, the subject for comedians, if there are any comedians. I suggest rather that we put Martin Luther King Jr. on the twenty, and remember Jefferson: “For I have sworn on the Altar of God eternal hostility to every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” We need only stand up and sit down, perhaps three times, and we will be back in Kansas. But it appears that there is a serious possibility that we will not do this.

America first has become for the Republicans an emblem of fascism. Right down the line, every plank in their platform is now not only consistent with tyranny, but is just what tyrants say. We do not notice, because we have not studied or considered tyranny. Zillions of dollars are available to study the silliest theoretical questions, such as regarding astronomy or animal intelligence. But if one wants to teach and study politics, he had better have sucked up to the FBI and the Koch brothers.

L.A. Sheriffs Shoot Unarmed People When Their Car Moves

NPR had a story this morning about unarmed people being shot when their car moves during a stop. In the worst case, a  Schizophrenic person named Johnnie was shot when he was pulled over and apparently delusional, so after beating him a while they apparently tazzed him, then when his car moved first forward then back, they shot him dead, fearing that they would be run over. I’ll have to look up the video, but on the radio we hear a woman “No!” and “Johnnie.” L.A. is of course correcting the problem, and has promised better training. Johnnie is dead.

First, police with power to kill but no understanding of the Bill of Rights is beyond dangerous. These are humans, but when they get paranoid and have the power to kill, it is repeatedly disastrous. Second, we are amused that now the government is going to get all pro-active on “mental illness.” Rather than leave people alone, or consider paranoia among law enforcement, they are going to interfere with people without warrant, and try to herd them into the drug-them-all-for-profit system. Apparently, they have given up crime-fighting, which was too dangerous anyway, and given up curing genuine vice, with which they were not making making much progress, and now they are going to protect us from the schizophrenics, who are to be shot as soon as they are “non-compliant.” I am going to watch the video now, saying only that because we do not have scientific knowledge regarding what we call “mental illness,” we had better leave it alone, o we are bound to make matters much worse. Our choice in the presidential election might be between soft and hard despotism on this matter.

I just watched the video. First, let me say that I won’t bet that the family is glad to have called police. John Berry is no longer acting strangely. Second, let me commend the brilliance of the officer standing between the parked cars while his cohort is tazzing a schizophrenic who has violated no one’s rights. That is why government has no constitutional right to interfere with anyone without a reason. Third, we must of cause obey the police, and it is potentially fatal to not hear, understand or react submissively, and even that may not save you- in another video (there are so many police shootings of innocents that any particular one is hard to find) they shot two people who were sleeping in a car. Tess Owen of Vice news writes: “Sadly, this instance of police failing to deescalate a situation involving a person having a mental health crisis is not unusual. Just last Thursday, Jeffory Tevis, 50, was holding a “large metal spoon in a threatening manner” before being fatally shot by Alabama police officers.

In addition to training the Bill of Rights and how to police in a free nation, the police need training in the proper martial arts. That they could not remove the unarmed man from the car or block that deadly spoon attack in a circumstance where the person is terribly confused and not acting with criminal intent shows an over-reliance on guns, because the police do not know how to use their hands. If one were to call the governor and make such a suggestion, or indicate a teacher with experience training police, he would be simply ignored, if not up for his own evaluation. Just think what they might do if one criticized them for police shootings. Martial arts done in the right way replace the need for guns in many instances, and make it possible to hold on to one’s weapon. Even being not very good, if I were a cop I would take on a mad guy with a knife and not hurt him, as in for such shootings I have seen. Before much training, I took a swinging belt away from a 6 foot 6 skinny retarded guy. We do not believe they do not go to class at least twice a week for life. Some do, but far too few, and the abilities may be abused just like a gun. But it is the Bill of Rights that teaches cops not to have their hands busy doing what is not their business.

Only one more thing to add. NPR yesterday interviewed a hit woman who works in the Philippians, where they have elected a Trump-style, law and order tyrant. She works for a corrupt cop who uses his badge to shoot people who owe him drug money. I’m just glad that, like electing a Hitler to become chancellor in the Wiemar Republic, such a thing could never occur in America, where we have liberty and justice for all.

In Canada, nothing like these things ae occurring. All the police shooting videos seem to be U.S.A., though no one has courage to record them any longer in the Philippians.
